How Do You Easter Egg?

We have an au pair from Germany, a Waldorf School graduate, who is so crafty, hard to imagine knowing how to do so many cool things like that at the age of 20!  She started a project with our daughter this week of blowing out eggs and then drawing on them with markers.  Then she created a mobile with string and brightly colored paper clips that we had around the house.  What a wonderful use of extra time off school during Spring Break and it has truly livened up the decor in our house.  I’ve since been reminded that my mother, long passed, used to blow out eggs and decorate them.  Parenting is such a wonderful ride of full circles.  Enjoy the long holiday weekend!

Spring has Sprung

There have been signs all around us in nature, although it feels a bit too soon, the truth is Spring has Sprung. Warmer weather, rainy days, daylight savings, and the birth of babies.  She has been singing a wonderful song from school the past week, “Spring is coming Spring is coming birdies build your nest, weave together sticks and feather, do you need a rest?” Enjoy the newness of this season and toast to it tonight!

Breakfast of Champions

Ode to the weekend here, we have time on Sundays and Saturdays to make big breakfasts, and so we do!  Homemade pancakes from scratch, no box for us!  And a quiche from a bakery brought over by a friend.  Warm tea, and on Sundays Alisa makes bread!  YUM! What did you have for breakfast this weekend?

Making Her Own Valentine’s Day Cards

So, her ideas for her cards were a bit beyond her ability to create without some significant help from us…so, live and learn.  She did the painting and cutting and gluing of doillies.  And of course signed her name.  Overall design creative was hers for sure…the threading of the beads…and sewing them onto the hearts…  OK, so now I understand how parents get lured into helping kids with their homework!

Chinese New Year’s Resolutions

So we have entered the year of the Dragon for 2012! Happy New Year!  I love all the amazing colors of the images for this holiday!  It reminds me of a lovely adventure that we had earlier in the Fall bringing our daughter with her friend on an excursion to Chinatown in LA. Again the colors pop out. Not sure if pork is the food of choice for the New Year, today certainly is a day to eat noodles, long noodles for good luck.  Sharing this image and encouraging you to follow our resolution which is to enjoy more time in Chinatown!  What a wonderful slice of American Chinese culture.
